My name is Jack Shane and I am currently a PhD student in Economics at Stanford University. Prior to this, I was a predoctoral research assistant for Grant Miller at Stanford University's Department of Health Policy focusing on development economics, demographic economics, and researching labor trafficking.
I graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College in 2022 with a double major in Economics (with high honors) and Mathematics. My senior thesis, entitled Digital Market Concentration: An Institutional and Social Cost Analysis, investigated the modern phenomenon of digital markets through a institutionalist lens under the supervision of Stephen Meardon.
My main research interests are in development and labor economics, as well as applied microeconomic techniques. I also love learning about the history of economic thought.
In my free time I love tending to my houseplants, playing with my cat DJ, hiking, cooking, golfing, listening to folk music, and watching my Los Angeles Angels finish 80-82 every year.
